Yellowjacket is a Blast (Blue) character that was released in the Marvel Future Fight – Ant-Man patch. Currently, he’s one of the top characters in the game despite not even having a uniform available or a six star skill. In fact, he’s become so powerful that the game designers recently added Deathlok into the game and gave him specific game mechanics to counter Yellowjacket (and a few other “over-powered” characters). You know a character is good when the game designers are adding things into the game to counter it.
• High damage output
• Great leadership skill
• Great default gear stats
• No uniform
• No six star skill, or fifth ability button
• Moderate versus large groups of mobs
Yellowjacket is farmable through the “Amazingly Interesting Voyage” special missions in the Ant-Man storyline. This makes him one of the easier characters to farm since you have a way of farming his biometrics daily. However, there is currently no other way to acquire his biometrics other than purchasing them from the market.
Fear of the Sting, at max level, applies a four-second paralyze when attacking at a 10% rate. It applies to all team members and has a twelve-second cool down timer. This leadership ability is one of the best in the game, especially in game modes where Yellowjacket is fighting one target rather than a group of targets. It seems to proc all the time for me and is especially devastating in player versus player (PvP) game modes.
The standard gear selections provide bonuses to energy attack, defense penetration, energy defense, hit points, critical rate, critical damage, dodge, and attack speed. Without even modifying the default setup, Yellowjacket’s default gear provides some of the best bonuses in the game. Like nearly all characters, I recommend the Dodge Booster for the fifth gear slot until it is no longer a broken game mechanic.
Yellowjacket currently has five skills, four of which are usable in combat. I view Swarm Shot as his most powerful attack when used correctly. It fires an energy attack in a straight line in front of the character causing an immense amount of damage. This power is great for attacking a single enemy or destroying an entire line of enemies in front of you.
His sole passive, Bounce Back, activates when his hit points drop below 30%. This increase his critical rate by +3%, reduces character size by -30% and increases all attack by +10%. Essentially, when his hit points get low his damage goes up.
The other three skills, Now You See Me, Flying Barrage, and Stinger are all useful skills in their own right. But the two top skills Yellowjacket has are the first two listed, Swarm Shot and Bounce Back. Each of the skills generally attacks in a straight line and none of them are useless.
For the top level ISO-8 sets, I prefer sets that activate while attacking and increase his offensive skills. These include Hawk’s Eye, Power of Angry Hulk, or Overdrive. This increases his already potent offensive power. If you wanted to add a little defense, I still prefer sets that activate while attacking. You could choose Drastic Density Enhancement which gives a hit point shield or Prince of Lie which increases Dodge rate. You really can’t go wrong with any of the sets listed above.
Yellowjacket currently doesn’t have a uniform but luckily he is so powerful he seems to do well without one. Maybe they’ll release one if the character appears in a future Marvel movie, but since he’s a not-so-popular super villain we may have to wait a while for that.
Yellowjacket doesn’t have a lot of team bonuses but the Team Pym setup is one of the most powerful in the game. It includes Giant Man (another awesome character) and Ant-Man (decent). This gives you a team with three different character types, Combat, Speed, and Blast. So you’ve got variety and versatility. In addition, the Team Pym setup also gives you the two-character team bonuses of Trainwreck, Student and Master, and whatever bonuses you get from having characters at the same star level. So the Team Pym setup alone is enough to make the team bonuses valuable.
Shortly after the Ant-Man release, I randomly decided that I was going to level up Yellowjacket and make him one of my signature characters. I wanted a new character that many players didn’t have that would make me “unique”. Well, I didn’t realize how powerful he was early on till I got him to level 40. Then I realized he was a beast… and so did everyone else. So my attempt to be “different” resulted in me actually being one of the herd. But hey, I guess it worked out because he ended up being my first character to level 60 and my most powerful character to date.
If you are looking for a good Blast character, I highly recommend Yellowjacket. He’s is incredibly powerful in almost every game mode you can play and makes for a great addition to your team. He’s relatively easy to farm, has good default gear, a great team bonus in the Team Pym setup, and overall is one of the best characters in Marvel Future Fight.
