My favorite frame when I started playing Warframe was Nova. Nova is the ultimate glass cannon character. She has a ton of offensive ability with almost no defensive ability. Her mobility is extremely fast (second to only Loki) and she is fairly easy play. In my opinion, Nova is best as a group character but can also be used to solo with on certain mission types.
Power #1 – Null Star
This ability spawn particles that float around you and damage nearby targets. This is a great little ability that provides you extra offense without even having to think about it. When I am full on energy and I come across extra energy spheres, I will cast Null Star because it is essentially free. It’s a nice little #1 power, nothing ridiculous but definitely useful.
Power #2 – Antimatter Drop
Launches a ball of energy that detonates upon collision. This is the most useless power on Nova. You’re typically not going to use this power just because it is a waste of energy when you could be using that energy for either Null Star or Molecular Prime. It’s a fun power to mess around with, but not something you’ll probably be using a lot. It can have a usefulness in powerful boss fights, but not on most basic mission runs.
Power #3 – Worm Hole
Creates a worm hole allowing instantaneous travel from the point of origin to where Nova is targeting at the time of casting. This is a fun little power that can literally help you get from Point A to Point B faster. It doesn’t help you do more damage, but hey, you’re already playing one of the most damaging frames in the game so do you really need four damage powers?
Power #4 – Molecular Prime
Formerly known as “the best power in the game”, Molecular Prime charges all nearby enemies within the radius with volatile antimatter. Once damage is done to those enemies, they explode in a ball of death. At the lower levels, this power pretty much kills everything around you. It was, by far, the most overpowered power in the game for a long time. It recently received a nerf, which actually isn’t a complete nerf in certain situations. Instead of instantly affecting all enemies in its radius, Molecular Prime now grows out from Nova’s casting position. Overall, it is still one of the best powers in the game by far.
Energy Siphon is a solid aura to use for Nova, as you’ll probably be using your powers a lot to destroy everything. I use Redirection (+Shield Capacity) with Vitality (+Health) or Vigor (+Shield Capcity/+Health) to keep myself alive. You could use all three if you’re soloing, or just one if you’ve got a good group to defend you.
To increase my damage capacity, I use Intensify (+Power Strength), Stretch (+Power Range), and Flow (+Power Max). With the new changes to Molecular Prime, anything that increases Power Duration (such as Continuity or Constitution) also increases the effectiveness of that ability.
Nova Tips & Tricks
Even with the various changes that have happened to Nova since the game began, my play style hasn’t changed much. I like to play in groups and stay on the move. I typically only use Null Star (#1) and Molecular Prime (#4), but that’s just my personal play style. If I’m topped out on energy I’ll make sure to activate Null Star every time I come across energy, just so it’s there. Other than that I look for large groups to activate Molecular Prime on. I like missions with massive amounts of enemies that are clumped up, such as Survival, Defense, and Mobile Defense. Whenever you play, just make sure to stay moving and stay near your teammates.
I love Nova. She was, and still is, my favorite Warframe when I’m playing with a good group. I don’t use her to solo very much with, but you definitely could. Just always remember that your job is to stay moving and deal massive amounts of damage. Sounds fun, right?
