Rhino is currently the best “tank” frame in Warframe. He is great in pretty much any type of mission. If you are a primarily solo player looking to complete Nightmare Mode missions, Rhino is probably the best frame out there for you to accomplish that with.
Power #1 – Rhino Charge
Of all of Rhino’s powers, this one is probably the least useful but it is still decent. This power causes you to charge towards your target and you will damage anything in your path. You will sprint forward damaging enemies and potentially knocking them down. There isn’t much of a trick to using this, you just hit the button to charge forward and do damage.
Power #2 – Iron Skin
An essential power to the tank-like abilities of Rhino. This power puts a damage shield around you which will absorb incoming damage. In most cases (but not all), Rhino will not take any damage to health or shields until this ability’s hitpoints are drained. Typically you will want to keep this power activated at all times, unless you are extremely pressed with power concerns. This power is more for soloing, but can be useful in many different situations.
Power #3 – Roar
Grants a temporary damage boost to all nearby Warframes. It will increase damage from weapons or from abilities. The nearby Warframes must be close enough when the power goes off, but after that point can move away and the buff will remain on them during the duration. Multiple roars will not stack, but a stronger Roar will overwrite a weaker one. It is an extremely valuable power for groups and in high level missions.
Power #4 – Rhino Stomp
This power damages all enemies around Rhino and will suspend this in the air by “disrupting time”. So it is essentially has both a damaging area of effect component and a crowd control area of effect component. The ability can hit enemies through walls, doors and above/below Rhino, so it has a pretty solid area of effect if maximized through mods.
For the aura, a lot of players use Energy Siphon (+Energy Regeneration) on everything and you can’t go wrong with that on Rhino either. I’ve also seen a decent amount of builds that use Rifle Amp (+Rifle Damage). Just like any frame, the build you select will vastly depend on how you want to play the frame. You will probably have pretty different builds with Rhino if you are soloing than if you are playing with a group. To increase your damage taking ability, I recommend Redirection (+Shield Capacity) with Vitality (+Health) or Vigor (+Shield Capcity/+Health), or even Steel Fiber (+Armor). It almost is never a bad idea to include Flow (+Maximum Energy), or Streamline (+Power Efficiency) is a good choice is you don’t choose Flow.
If you’re using a group-based build that uses Roar a lot, you’ll want to increase your Power Duration, so Continuity (+Power Duration), Constitution (+Knockback Recovery/+Power Duration), and Narrow Minded (+Power Duration/-Power Range) are common. Roar is also affected by Power Strength, so Intensify (+Power Strength) is a good choice. Overall, it really depends on which powers you are going to use and how you are going to play Rhino.
Rhino Tips & Tricks
In general, I see two ways to playing Rhino. The first is playing him as a group tank and buff machine. You basically make sure you can take damage while buffing the party with your Roar. This is great for high level missions or boss fights, but can be unnecessary in mid-level to low level missions. The strategy of playing as a group tank and buff bot requires you to be both near your party (for the buffs) and in the front (for taking damage). So it definitely will take planning when choosing your mods and skill when you’re playing.
The second way to play Rhino is as a more solo focused frame. You basically set yourself up with mods that will allow you to take a decent amount of damage and use the powers you want to use. Then you just bowl your way through any mission you really want to.
Rhino is a very popular Warframe and it doesn’t take very much time playing it to see why. He can take a lot of damage and if you get good at playing him, he’s virtually invulnerable. I, personally, don’t ever play Rhino in groups just because I don’t see his overall damage output being that great. I absolutely love Rhino for solo missions, specifically Nightmare Mode missions.
